What I need (via xdesx)
How do you eat a Kit Kat?
Someone I know likes to slide his thumb along the groove,
Breaking the thin aluminum foil
That shrugs off easily like withering petals
Of a flower from childhood
Retiring graciously from center stage
Like the faded scene from days long past
Giving way to the claims of fall
Nuanced in vivid shades of an autumn harvest
Bountiful browns that spill the sticky sweetness
The chocolate-stained memories of a skinny boy.
His fingers a russet hue, from the sun or the candy
Fingers that taste of sweetness, breaking
Fingers of crème-filled wafers, joined
At the vertical divet, now split in halves
You attack it methodically, for the greatest efficiency
The air smells of pollen and chocolate,
A mellow sugar sachet lingers
Imbued with innocence,
Bursting with the memories of shadows
Flying, of hands dancing, across an old piano,
The sounds of laughter, trickling down the stream,
Bubbling portions of unwakened dreams.
A book of poems in his lap
Yellowed page marked with a candy wrapper
Motion of soft crumbling,
The chocolate dissolves in the mouth,
Words melting a youthful heart
Smiles that go on forever.
How do you preserve a taste?
Of nights solidifying,
The grey hours that ease the pain
Of the departing childhood,
And nights disintegrating,
Into another anticipatory experience,
To relish, to attach a note of sentimentality,
Perhaps you can slice your words along midnight sleeves,
Breaking the veil of sleep
Urgency masquerading as peace
Like the whispers of a stranger traveling in dreams
Of a name, distant yet familiar.
That of a fruit, a sultry decaying sweet.
How do you eat a yuzu?
